Cheggers, this isn't an article it's a Ph.D thesis on the history of slow, boring and too complicated sports.

Stop trying to teach me things and start inserting more bum jokes. That's how you sustain readership!

Ah, I see. A cricket post disguised with a thin veneer of baseball pictures. You don't fool me A-Rod James. Good post though, still don't think I'll be watching when you get games where a team won't hit a ball for the entire game. Big fan of everyone taking steroids in the sport though, as usual everyone wants to be Big Ron.

"In baseball, as in cricket, even when not much appears to be happening, it nearly is, or is just about to."

My existence, although bleak and futile, is far too short to be dealing with entertainment that can be described with the line above. Slamball, now there's a sport.

I haven't managed to read the whole thing because it really is long and my lunch hour is not quite the same length. After spending a year in America I too became mildly obsessed with baseball. I even went so far as taking an entire course for credits on the history of baseball at Uni over there, learning all sorts of useful nuggets of information, such as why they have a "World Series", why the LA Dodgers are called "Dodgers", and how during WWII they told Japan to give baseball back and tried to forbid them from playing it. One thing I will warn you of is this: there are so many games it is difficult to keep up through the season; the teams change constantly due to the draft system, so your team may have been the best one year but will be the worst the next year and vice versa. I happen to think that this is a not a bad thing but it's strange to get used to.

Don't worry about the season ending, we are now into the NFL season. It may not look it but the stop/start and lengthy nature of this sport makes it similar to baseball and cricket in this respect. Once you understand the rules and tactics it can be equally as entertaining.
